  I read so many reviews on Barbarestan ahead of my trip to Tbilisi. We were so excited to have dinner here because we heard the food was phenomenal. I am so sad to rate this restaurant only 1 star and I hope they read this review because there is a lot they can do to make the experience better. The service at this place was really awful. From the moment we walked through the door it did not feel welcoming. The waiters are so stiff, snooty and prescriptive. I tried to move my chair closer to my partner and they told me to move it back immediately. We tried to order 2 of the starters instead of all 4 and were told that it’s best to order 4. We literally had to be firm and say “no we don’t want any more” for them to take our order. We wanted to take our time and enjoy the evening slowly : order starters, and decide on entrees a bit later, but were told that we had to order everything at once. The waiters really destroyed the experience for me and I won’t return again because of this. It’s really not nice being made to feel like you are an imposition and they made us feel very unwelcome in this highly recommended restaurant. To top it all off, we got FOOD POISONING. My husband and I were throwing up the whole night. I had the mountain trout and he had the duck and we have suffered with nausea and vomiting since eating there last night.

  Restaurant has very interesting concept of reviving 100-year old local recipes and has perfect collection of native wines. If you wish to visit this place - please book it before, because it is very small. Service is perfect. Worth Michellin star.

  One of the fanciest restaurants in the city. Allegedly based on a recently discovered recipe book found in one of the city's markets. The dishes are interesting and unique, staff has a good command of English and Russian and the atmosphere is nice. The only thing preventing the place of getting 5 stars from me is the fact the design of the restaurant is pretty weird and every table is somehow on the aisle.

  An outstanding restaurant!!! Attentive and professional service, excellent food, beautiful decor and table wear- a wonderful experience to remember Tbilisi by. A selection of 4 dips with Georgian bread were very interesting, The duck was nicely done, inner parts was delightful and spicy, beef medallions were tender and the vegetables were very nice as well. And the suggested red wine was absolutely superb. Thank you for a lovely afternoon and a memorable meal.

  The worst service I have ever experienced. This restaurant was highly recommended however I will never recommend it to anyone else. We booked for 4pm because of our travel plans. The restaurant had a few free tables and not many other patrons. The first to arrive was rudely met by waiter who wanted to check if she had a booking. They found it and refused to seat us upstairs. I then arrived a few moments later and was told my party was waiting downstairs. As I started to go down the stairs, I was rudely told by another waiter that I can't go down there unless he confirmed that I did have a booking. The service during the meal wasn't great either and I was appalled at how rude the service staff were. The manager on duty was one of the rude ones and most of his male staff followed in suit. We were really looking forward to the meal and the whole experience left us really sour. I've never been treated in such a gruff and rude way before.
